Mountain Dew MDX now comes in a sugar free version! Though I’m not a person who is particularly concerned with the sugar content of my soda, it does add a nice warm feeling to you when you drink it. In the back of my head I know that I shouldn’t feel guilty for indulging in, maybe just one, or a few more. The label looks really nice with the silver matching the color of the cap. I think you get to see much more of the detail of the logo in this color. It looks very light and wispy- whooshy.

Active Ingredients *Per can, not per serving:
Ginseng, taurine, guarana, d-Ribose, caffeine, and maltodexetrin.

I was pretty impressed with MDX as an energy soda, but the sugar free version is just awful. It really was just like drinking NutraSweet with water, plain, flat water. This might’ve had something to do with the fact that it sat in my fridge for a while, but that shouldn’t effect it that much. I noticed later that MDX comes with a sell by date that I couldn’t read. So I didn’t know if maybe I kept it for too long. It’s not like it was in there for a year or anything, maybe a month or two. Who ever heard of soda going bad?

I’m usually more pleased with a sugar free version because the taste is a little tarter. This one was really unpleasant to drink. It didn’t really give me much of a kick either. It you happen to love the taste of artificial sweetener, then this is the one for you.

I’ve seen these hybrid energy sodas on the rise (Vault, Jones), and I’m not too happy about it. Companies should be busy trying to make even more energizing drinks, not less. In the end I know that companies are trying to diversify their products, but what happens is the end product is so far from the original that they were better off not making it spin offs at all.

Jason's Review:
Mountain Dew MDX Sugar Free has a lot of flavor, and most of it is not unpleasant. There is some diet soda aftertaste, and come to think of it, some duringtaste, but not bad. It's like a not-quite-as-good-as Diet Sun Drop (for those fortunate enough to have Sun Drop available in their area). It's uncharacteristically thick for a Sugar Free soda, which somewhat took away from it being diet. It's pretty easy to drink, and reasonably thirst quenching, but lacks absolutely anything to either lament or exalt.

The closest thing to something to be excited about is the price and quantity, slightly cheaper than your average soda 16oz. soda, and more volume than the industry standard 8.3-8.4 (but less than the 16oz. and 24oz. offerings by Bookoo, Monster XXL, and others). Like the regular Mountain Dew MDX, this will score it some points in value.

I was as energized as I would expect to be after drinking a cup of coffee. I wasn't really compelled to go out of my way to expend energy, but wasn't overwhelmed by fatigue. If this were a 16oz. $2 beverage, it would be the perfect "5" average soda on a 1-10 scale.
