Can Text:
The same French jester with 8 balls on his hat, and squid skeleton heads as the regular joker, only with a nauseating blue background twist. Apparently "the reason we call it Mad Energy is 'cause Joker is loaded with a high potency energy blend to give you a lift when you need it most!" The makers go on to say, "So, whether you just need to make it through the day or party", (like a rockstar?), "all night grab a Joker Mad Energy and you'll be ready for the fight". (I wasn't aware there was going to be a fight) "Joker Mad Energy...Outrageous". (Truly, truly, truly outrageous? By the way...Jem is my name)
Active Ingredients *Per can, not per serving:
Taurine 2000 mg, 5000 mg Energy Blend including caffeine, ginseng, inositol, and glucose. Coincidentally, the back of this can looks exactly like the back of the Lo-Carb Monster can. It also has the exact same amount of C vitamin, B vitamins, niacin, sugar, carbs, calories, and sodium. Not to mention they have the same fonts, and the can layout is the same.... hmmm The only difference is that Lo-Carb Monster has L-Carnitine as the main ingredient in it's energy blend.

Joker Mad Energy Lo-Carb is the same thing as the blue Monster. It looks smells and tastes exactly the same. Uh-oh, coincindentally, the lo-carb Joker can is blue too!! I wonder why that is.. and why it's so hard to find any information about Joker Mad Energy. Is it posible that it was released by the same company to try to trick us? This is just like that time that Stephen King released that book under an alias to see if anyone would buy it. People with lots of money will do things like that to try to trick us common folk.
I really enjoy Monster Lo-Carb, and since this one is exactly the same, you'd think that I am going to give it the same marks. But I'm not because Joker is copying Monster, and no one likes a copycat.

7Jason's Review:
This drink was better when it was called Monster Lo-Carb. If I closed my eyes I could almost imagine enjoying a tall chilled can of the "blue" Monster. The taste was good, but, like a Puff Daddy/P. Diddy/Diddy song, not very original.
I disagreed with the naming of the regular mad energy, as I didn't think it made any sense. The Joker doesn't look mad, he looks like a date rapist. The Lo-Carb on the other hand, is aptly named, as that blue color makes me furious. I was so mad when I consumed the Joker Lo-Carb, I wanted to smash the can against my head, but I'm a pansy, so I scolded it verbally. I think it learned its lesson. Seriously, the energy was about the same as a Monster Lo-Carb as well.
All-in-all, I'd certainly buy it if they were out of Monster Lo-Carb, but I'd wrap something around it, maybe a happy bunny spaz juice can sticker.

Where i live they sell these at dollar stores because no one will buy them. Edited by Jason: Or maybe they sell them there because, even at 50 cents, their mark-up is insane, and they can sell more monster to people who won't pay $2 for monster, but will pay 50 for monster in a joker mad energy can at the dollar store?

It is possible to get the orange flavor Joker Mad Energy, that has not been reviewed here, at the 99 cent store.

My son was given a can at his junior high, which he drank, and proceeded to have anxiety attack which required a trip to the Emergency Room. This drink is dangerous. It says on the can not for people under 18 years old, but no one will stop teenagers from buying them. The can also states that the ingredients have not been evaluated or regulated by the FDA. Too bad, how can anyone trust the information on the can in regard to the amount of different substance in the drink? Buyer Beware. The can states that the statements have not been evaluated by the FDA, which is to say that the FDA hasn't agreed that certain ingredients increase energy, not that the FDA has no opinion about the safety of these ingredients, or that the listed amounts are arbitrary. Also, I think it's far more fairly stated, "This drink may be dangerous for people who suffer from anxiety disorder".

I am an energy drink addict, and I think Lo-Carb Joker is awesome. Tastes the same as pricier versions, and has a great kick, and only .60 ea at Big Lots. I find the artwork somewhat frightening, but oh well, I'm in it for the results, not the packaging. Does anyone know exactly how much caffeine is actually in the "Energy Blend"?? Why is it a big secret? Most energy drinks have roughly the same amount of caffeine per serving as an average cup of coffee, but I much prefer the flavor of lo-carb energy drinks, and the xtra shot of vitamins isn't bad either. Edited by Jason: Our friends at energy fiend report 150mg. Their site has a lot of caffeine content information, check out their site in our energy links.

I've been using energy drinks as a workout supplement for several years. I've tried several with Monster being my favorite. Recently I discovered Joker lo-carb and was favorably surprised. I purchase mine from Big Lots for sixty cents a can. For the price and taste it's hard to beat!

well, I'm over 55, so I stick with low-carb drinks. The best breakfast for me is a lo-carb Joker mixed with a half-cup of applesauce & Mannatech Ambrotose. Mmmmmm

Joker is a good energy drink that can be bought on the cheap. Much better than many of the higher priced competitors offerings which taste about the way varnish smells.

I have MS and I get fatigued, I drink a can of Joker Mad Engery Lo-Carb and the feeling of fatigue leaves. The only other energy drink that also relieves my fatigue is Rockstar energy drink. Joker Mad Energy is less expensive. This is why I like it, the only problem is it is very hard to find.

This is available at Big Lots and dollar tree. Big lots sells it for 60 cents a can and dollar tree..well a dollar. But this taste exactly like Monster Lo-Carb and here the lowest I've seen it if its not on special is $2. So why not go with Joker?
megaquark on 2008-05-25 15:39:18 said:
Both Monster and Joker are made and distributed by Hansen corporation. It's not a copy - it's an alternate "off brand value" product. Edited by Jason: Of course, my recollection from 3 years ago may not be precise, but I believe the can originally stated that it was a Circle K product and sold at full price. Since that time, I've heard a great deal of people say it was available for sub $1 at Dollar Tree and other value stores.

I didn't think Joker Mad Energy wasn't that bad, IT kinda made my Chest Hurt for a little bit and then gave me a head ache, Its taste was kinda like a watered down monster.

I agree. This tastes exactly like Monster, but no complaints from me, because I love Monster. My local Dollar Tree sells this "Lo-Carb Joker Mad Energy", and I was skeptical of the awkward looking package, with the same font as Monster surrounding the rim of the can, but I'll definitely get it again, because Monster is what... $2-$3, and I can get this for $1!!! I hate when companies don't release the info on how much caffine is in the beverage though. I don't care if it's only 60mg, or if they're outstanding and put 300mg in, I would just like to know!

I love the taste of the no sugar, blue can Joker Mad Energy.I've been buying them for a few years and now the Circle K's in FL where I usually get them are no longer going to carry them. This is bad news to me. I would like to know if there is another store that I can purchase them from.

is the vanilla after taste intentional or unintentional? I liked it. The can design looks like it was swiped from a head shop. I'm not surprised it ended up at Big Lots!
