Rockstar Cola, is relatively new to the south, but is one of the original Rockstar flavors. It used to come in a red can, which is now the home of Rockstar Juiced Pomegranate. I originally had Rockstar Energy Cola in Delaware back in 2005, along with 3 other energy drinks I've never seen in the south: Mad-Croc, Vamp NRG and Orange County Choppers High Octane Fuel. We threw the can for Rockstar Cola away when we cleaned out the car at a gas station, so we never reviewed it. I prefer the new can design, with the murdered out matte black finish.
Like all Rockstar energy drinks, I'm pleased with how Rockstar Energy Cola provides a strong and sustained energy boost.
My only real complaint with Rockstar is their "Party Like a Rockstar" slogan, which has been defined to me as "snorting lines of coke, until you're a nasal hemophiliac". Perhaps they should add, "Get tested at the clinic like a Rockstar", for after you get blitzed out of your mind and make a poor decision of taking a dip in the "communal pool".
Rockstar Cola, like most energy colas has more of a bite than a tradtional Coke or Pepsi. I bought this at a gas station, and drank it directly out of the can. Like Jolt Power Cola, you might find it more refreshing over ice. I would consider this product on par with Jolt Power Cola. Depending on your taste preference, you may find this, Jolt or Red Bull's cola offerings most appealing. Red Bull Cola, in fact, is the only American Red Bull product I would consider buying. Jolt Power Cola is difficult to find, but it's the cheapest per ounce. Rockstar Cola is the most readily available, and in 16oz. cans for $2.29.

I don't find Rockstar Energy Cola refreshing, no matter how cold, I feel like it's thick and the flavor is overpowering. I'm ok sipping it, but it gets less enjoyable as it warms. I think the flavor is bitey, and tingles in the back of the tongue, and the aftertaste lingers. After drinking most of the can, I get a muted sickly sensation, perhaps from the 66g of sugar. I found the flavor of Rockstar almost indistinguishable from Jolt Power Cola and Red Bull Cola. Most notably, I found Red Bull more refreshing. Also noteworthy is that Red Bull is avialable in 12oz., Rockstar in 16oz. and Jolt in 24oz. So, you can choose based on your thirst and energy needs.
200x200 Ad SpaceAcross the board, we've always given Rockstar solid marks for their ability to make an invigorating beverage. Aside from Rockstar Zero Carb, which went above and beyond with 240mg of caffeine per 16oz. can (80 more than Rockstar Cola), Rockstar Energy Cola provides a comparable jolt of power to all the other Rockstar drinks.
You can likely get these somewhere for $1.99 (since all the other Rockstars are available for $1.99). We happened upon them for $2.29, which I think is unfortunate, but still not a rip-off. I'd be un-inclined to pay $2.29 for this if any of the other major labels were available for $1.99 (namely several of the Monster flavors, NOS Grape or Full Throttle.

Rockstar Cola comes in a matte-finish murdered out black can with gold, silver and white accent colors. Even the lid and pull tag are black (with the exception of the silver double "R" on the tab). Around the rim, it reads, "Caffeine, Guarana, Ginseng, B-Vitamins, Taurine", all separated by stars. The front has the Rockstar "star" in silver and gold in the bottom left corner. The gold and silver name read, "Rockstar Energy Cola", to the right of the star, "Double Size, Double Strength".
The back of the can has some unnecessary text on it that reads, "Bigger. Better. Faster. Stronger. Rockstar is the world's most powereful energy drink.", Let me interrupt and say, that's just false, "Enhanced with the potent herbal blend of Guarana, Ginkgo, Ginseng and Milk Thistle. Rockstar Energy Cola is scientifically formulated to provide an incredible energy boost for those who lead active and exhausting lifestyles - from athletes to rock stars. Enjoy this fully refreshing lightly carbonated beverage super chilled. Party like a Rockstar."

I think rockstar cola was like a sweeter Pepsi or Coke. I would rather have one of those sodas but if I wanted an energy cola this would be my preference over Jolt, Red Bull cola, or Monster Assault if you consider that a cola.
