What's in Original Mountain Dew AMP?

Nutritional Information

Maltodextrin, Ginseng, Taurine, B Vitamins, Guarana, and Caffeine. I would also like to add sugar, quite a lot of it, as an active ingredient.

Jason's Review

This soda has always been entirely too syrupy for me. It's like drinking tree sap. The taste is pretty good otherwise, liken to condensed Mountain Dew. I'd imagine it would be good served over pancakes, but it's not an enjoyable beverage for me. I also get very little out of it in the way of energy. I feel like the energy is mostly from the sugar, though it does host an impressive list of "energizing" ingredients in undisclosed amounts.

On a closing note, the logo and can are both pretty cool. I do feel "xtreme" when drinking it.

Please note, this is the 2005 version of AMP, the 8.3oz which existed before Mountain Dew MDX came and went. I believe the new AMP, which is 16oz. is also a new formula.

Guests's Review

I've always thought of this as the mini wannaba Monster. I enjoy the flavor, but you really have to get it when it's nice and cold because it gets thick fast. The energy level is decent, but it could be better. I think you get a bit of a kick in the beginning, but it doesn't have much going for it besides a bunch of sugar.

Original Mountain Dew AMP can or bottle design and textual information
They are clear that it's "From Mountain Dew", assuming that "Mountain Dew" is some remote island where all the xtreme sports stars are enslaved to make sodas. The can features a sweet light to dark green vertical fade...which is so xtreme. They also clarify that this product is not for children...and Mountain Dew is?

I love amp. It tastes like mountain dew! I can't say the energy effect is on par with some of the others but they go great with lunch.

I love energy drinks, especially Amp! (:
Vince@2011-07-08 16:30:54
I love Mt Dew, but was unimpressed with either taste or 'energy' from AMP.
Ashley@2011-03-22 11:10:59
I absolutely love amp. :)

when did amp energy drinks start selling?? Edited by Jason: Not completely sure what you're asking, but I'll take a stab at this. If you mean, when did it start being a successful brand, I'm not sure that's happened yet. If you mean, when did it become available, my recollection is around 2003, but that was a much more Red Bull/Sobe Adrenaline Rush-like incarnation in an 8.3oz can (like the one pictured) The new Amp, in the 16oz. can (with the multiple flavors) showed up around 2007 or 2008, I'm guessing.

CARL@2010-07-05 16:41:28
AMP is the best energy drink around. green rocks.
joe@2010-05-28 12:35:44
amp tastes like s*@%. just like the rest of the super sugar filled energy drinks. plus all that corn syrup in them is nasty. hydrive is much better, and much healthier. amp and them are not good for you due to all the sugar and corn syrup they use. plus they are high in calories compared to hydrive which only has 30 per bottle, and no corn syrup since its water based u get no nasty after tastes..they taste similar to gatorade but better, Edited by Jason: Why didn't you just post this comment in the Hydrive review, where we essentially said the same thing?

Ah, now this sucker brings back good memories. AMP was the first energy drink I ever tried back in its original can, I think I was 10 years old at the time. I give the taste a 8-9/10, and I usually drink a 16 oz AMP after I finish up a good long skate/BMX session.
john@2009-12-29 10:30:17
this energy drink doesn't taste that great at all, but it is supposed 2 have the most energy in it, but i would never drink it...
Rachell@2009-12-11 13:19:33
I love Amp energy drinks they dont really work for me unless i chug it but it tastes so much better then any other energy drink!
billo@2009-11-20 12:52:15
amp tastes way better than other energy drinks; no nasty chemical aftertaste... it just tastes like a delicious soda.
greg@2009-11-06 09:57:57
I like Amp Energy for it's sugar high. I got them 5 for 5$ at Shaws and if it wasn't on sale for that price I would have gone with a good ol' Rockstar.
LovENRG@2009-09-29 09:17:55
Could somebody please inform me of the actual taste of Amp? If anyone on this site reads this...great job guys, but please describe the taste for each drink in ur review. Also maybe a viewers pages voting between poor->average->good can give a better general idea of each drink! Good luck guys.
ShaggyisMatt@2009-07-23 11:43:24
It is like Mountain Dew in a taller can at twice the price. Same taste and same amount of energy. Waste of money when you could just buy a regular dew.
Yasmin@2009-06-16 15:39:29
Amp energy drink had no effect on me at all. It tasted good for one second, but the after taste was horrible!
John@2009-05-07 13:59:44
AMP is my favorite energy drink. If you like Mountain Dew, you will like AMP. It taste like Mountain Dew that has been kicked up a notch or two
Nova@2009-04-27 12:48:44
I've been drinking amp for like 2 years now and I can honestly say I love it. I love the taste but of course I'm a chronic Mountain Dew Drinker. This stuff wakes me up in the morning and will keep me sorta awake until lunch then I have a good old-fashioned Mountain Dew.
Midnite Sally@2009-04-14 16:19:37
For me, AMP is like a Mt. Dew upgrade. Personally, I prefer the original green to other flavors. The energy boost could be better. The price tends to be pretty good too. For the amount of beverage, combined with the taste, it's usually a better buy than the others. I'll actually skip buying an energy drink if they don't have AMP in the store.
Anne@2009-03-24 12:28:22
This was the first energy drink I tried that was actually tolerable. I had tried some type of blueberry Monster drink and a type of Full Throttle but HATED the tastes. Amp gives me enough energy and the taste is good for an energy drink; however, I am not too fond of the AFTER taste.
Mandy@2009-02-12 12:36:04
Amp is better tasting than all the other energy drinks i've tried.
