Jason's Review

Firstly, "5-Hour Energy" is no longer "Chaser 5-Hour Energy". I think the lemon-lime tastes significantly better than the original Chaser 5-hour Energy Shot. It's pretty tart, and goes down a little gritty, but this doesn?t detract from the overall experience, and it's certainly worth overlooking since after the fact, you'll feel like you downed a handful of dexies. The bottle does explicitly indicate that I should drink the contents of the package, so that ruled out snorting or injecting it.

This is really energizing, the caffeine content is listed as about the same as a cup of coffee, but since it's condensed to 2oz. and you drink it in about 8 seconds (not the Luke Perry movie), you get the rush pretty fast.

This drink is so energizing that after you drink it, you're transported for exactly 5 hours to a land of rainbows and kittens, where everything but you moves in quasi-slow-motion. This gives you twice as long to laugh at the kittens covering up their biological waste with rainbow sand and gravel. You get to run around like Mario on star, and bulldoze over everything, collecting coins, laying waste to hammer brothers, and rescuing the princess, who is always in another castle. If you don't find the princess within 5 hours, your parents will be very disappointed. You will likely have to go to your room, and think about what you've done.

I was unable to find the princess, which gave me a chance to write this review while thinking about what I've done. So far I've come up with this.

(Extra Cool) Things I've done:

5-Hour energy is now available fairly readily at $2.50, down sharply from the $2.99 of the original blend. It's a pretty good value for those who need quick energy on the go. Being a person that can't pee in public, this is great for ballgames, movies, fishing tournaments, riots, or catholic weddings; any place you'll likely be for a while, and may ultimately result in your being shoulder-to-shoulder with another dude at a trough-like urinal.

Guests's Review

My last experience with a Chaser product ended badly. You may recall my review for Chaser 5-hour Energy Shot which gave me hot flashes and made me feel like I might throw up a hippie. Fortunately Lemon Lime flavored 5 hour Energy tasted much better. It was extremely sweet and tart which is really how I think anything titled lemon lime should taste.

I felt slightly energized, but no where near the extent of Berry flavored 5-hour Energy Shot. I was expecting a similar experience as I'd had with Berry Energy and cleared my schedule for 5 full hours of shaking, running in circles and itching compulsively and was disappointed when I considered taking a nap about an hour later. The folks at Chaser probably got into some sort of trouble and totally nerfed the formula to this new pansy one which, though it tasted better, did not really get the job done in the energy department which seriously downs the value of the product.

The bottle does explain why my skin was so blotchy and red in Chaser 5-hour Energy Shot review calling it a 'niacin flush'. Which is apparently when the niacin increases the blood flow near the surface of the skin. If you believe that look around you quickly because you may see the Men In Black car pulling away somewhere in a rush because they just zapped you with their memory zapper and made up this silly story.

5-Hour Energy Lemon Lime can or bottle design and textual information
Well, not really a bottle, more of a little vile. Very colorful little bottle, with some guy running through the mountains like he's one of those crazy Ultra Runners rounding his 45th mile in a 50 mile run knowing he probably lost at least one toenail about 30 miles back. They boldly claim 5 hours of energy now, no crash, sugar free, and 0 carbs.

5 hour energy taste like drain and smells bad too. Took a wiff and i wanted to vomit. I took this too before a marathon. I felt queasy after i drank it. But it worked. I'm not a track runner but i just ran so i can get extra credit. I would recommend it for the energy. But i wouldn't recommend it for the taste. Tastes horrible! Edited by Jason: This post about 5 hour energy was originally kind of unintelligible, I've tried to construct what was supplied into something comprehensible.

Okay so, I don't see anything even close to how I felt on here, I took a 5 hour energy today before work since I was feeling a bit groggy.. And well, I had the worst night ever!! At first, after drinking half a bottle I felt really energetic, and then it was more of an over-whelming feeling. Almost like a really bad drunk feeling.. Next I felt exhausted and then extremely sick. I drink other energy drinks, coffee and soda all the time, Never Have I felt like this, I felt spacey and weird all night. I still feel super awful. I think I'm going to go throw up now, If anyone knows why this I would love to know as well. Edited by Jason: Some people have this reaction when they take 5 hour energy on an empty stomach.

bobby@2010-05-06 15:31:18
5 hour energy is good stuff, keeps you going not too much energy but you definitely feel something. good taste too. but no one can beat monster hitman's taste.
Emily@2009-12-29 10:46:49
5 hour energy lemon lime makes me vomit involuntarily and my heart races to the point I think I am having a heart attack. Then the diarrhea sets in. I have never had such an awful experience in my life. Stay away from 5 hour energy!
Adrian@2009-09-03 13:36:52
I bought this to drink before the mile run at school to see If I could get a really good time but no... I felt energized at the beginning but I'm sure it was all in my head, the stuff made my face turn scarlet red and my feet burning hot... This made me get a 10:11, I was about ready to pass out from this crap... This just made everything worse! Edited by Jason: This sounds like a niacin flush, which the 5-hour energy bottle warns may occur. It's best to sample these energy products in practice, not on competition day.
Steve@2009-08-26 09:24:54
The lemon flavor tastes like Chicken

5-hour energy lemon lime is the worst energy shooter i've ever had made me want to barf. Don't buy this.
JJ@2009-06-16 17:22:14
Ok, I tried the 5-Hour Energy Drink. Does it taste good, not really, like drinking a Sweet Tart, did it work, yes. I wasn't all hyped up, but it did keep me alert. Maybe for 2-3 hours. So it does work, but don't expect to be crazy, and all hyped up, just more alert. Now, I did try the new Extra Energy drink, and I definitely felt energized and even more alert that the regular 5-Hour Energy Drink! The Extra Energy really did the trick.
Debbie@2009-06-13 22:41:05
First off let me begin by saying that I LOVE THIS DRINK!!!! it gives me all the energy i need in a two ounce bottle... and 5hrs is all the time i need to get things done... and what i love so much about it is that it doesnt make me crash at all!!! i use it for concentrating in class and running errands... it is amazing.. but the thing i dont like about it is the taste and the price.. the taste isnt appealing but its worth it because of all the energy you will be getting... and the price may be high (like $3) but seeing as though i dont buy it everyday (only on days where i really need it or when im too tired to get things done) the price is worth it..
Jerry@2009-05-07 13:59:44
5 hour energy works just as advertised. Don't take the whole bottle at once though because it will burn off. The 5 hour claim really only applies if you take half the bottle, then take half the bottle a couple hours later. It really works great for getting me through the afternoon after lunch groggy time. I've bought a few at full price so I think I'm going to buy a 12 pack to save a few bucks.
Frank-Lincoln, NE@2009-04-27 12:48:44
Well I'm an Locomotive Engineer and I work the oddest hours on the planet, I can truly say I LOVE 5 HOUR ENERGY DRINK it keeps me going at 3am til 7 or 8am when I am still working or if I get called to work from 4pm to 4am it helps. I give this drink a 100 on the rating scale, just one draw back.... the price but I say it's 100% better than RED no Bull drink
Jared@2009-04-14 16:19:37
5-hour energy works, bottom line. Skeptical or not, the caffeine (if you get that version) gets things started quickly, and the other ingredients are what sustain and really do the job. Yes, it lasts 4-6 hours. -- I've read alot of the comments and here is the deal, imho. If you are a hypochondriac do not take this.. those who are too sensitive to changes in their body mentally are subject to causing undesired effects. If you are prone to panic attacks, or general anxiety of any kind,.. skip this product. Why? Same reason as aforementioned,.. You are prone, apt, to feel the definitive change in energy mentally and physically and over-react causing a panic attack. Which will lead you to think you are dying, having a serious reaction, and well "Panicking".. Panic Attacks are a very common reason for emergency room trips. You will end up there if you freak, and they will find nothing wrong, and you will hate the product. There is a 99.99% chance that this product is absolute safe. But as with anything in the world you ingest you can have an allergic reaction to an ingredient,.. for that reason examine the ingredients to be sure -- If in doubt, take a very small amount of it and wait 30-45minutes to test. I noticed a comment on if you are sedentary, overweight, underweight, a junky, etc do not use the product. Well that lumps most of America into the description :) -- It is safe for anyone who is reasonably healthy. You know if you are not 'reasonably' healthy. If you are sensitive to energy products, take half or a quarter of the dose. Yes, it seems like very little but it is potent. Be smart, less is more. If you are experienced with 'uppers' take as directed. Again here,.. 5-hour energy works via a different mechanism than your general 'upper'. IE: Coffee, other energy drinks, etc utilize caffeine as the main catalyst for the energy. This product utilizes high amounts of B vitamins along with taurine, etc to pre-curse amino acids for a change in brain activity. So even if you abuse amphetamines,.. it is likely you will still feel a boost from this stuff. That said, if you take amphetamines for a medical condition or just use them recreation ally -- This is not Ritalin, or adderal. You will likely be sorely disappointed if you are trying to compare an OTC vitamin/amino acid concoction to a scheduled narcotic :). With all of that said,.. if you feel nausea .. eat a slice or two of bread. Or other complex carb. If you feel the effects are 'too much' for you, eat a complete meal.. if that isn't accessible then eat whatever you can to lower the potency of the agent in your bloodstream. If you are freaking out with heart racing and so on -- grab a glass of water, and pour a good bit of salt in it.. drink it down. This will change the consistency of your blood. Though, it is not going to cause a heart attack or other damaging condition -- Just know that, and take a benzodiazepine if you have such a anxiety attack or condition.. and/or wait it out. Yes, all of that sounds scary, but in reality the majority of people who take this will feel the effects to some degree, and give it a positive rating. Also, there is no crash -- which is amazing to me. I am not quite certain how that is achieved, but you level off after quite a period of time. The price is steep, and I am sure it will drop in a few years if it remains on the market.. the item should be 99 cents a bottle. It costs nearly nothing to make.

I don't recommend 5 hour energy. I don't like the effects of other energy drinks, so I thought this one would be better. I actually felt more tired and unmotivated after drinking this, and would always need an afternoon nap the days I drank this. Also, those days I drank it my stomach felt a little queasy. I am not sure it has the amount of B vitamins it claims because usually excessive amounts of genuine B vitamins will cause your urine to turn bright yellow. This never happened anytime I drank this, but it did when I took a regular B-vitamin complex vitamin. HHMMMM......

5 hour energy is intended to be used by adults that do not have reactions or low tolerance to caffeine. Some posters have noted that they gave it to a 14yo... WTF! Honestly people, if you can not drink a cup of coffee without getting the shakes, then do not use this product. On the other hand, I have been taking five hour energy for many years now, with Green Tea, and Caffeine pills, and other energy supplements without side effects. All must remember that each of us is physically different and will react differently it. Use your commonsense.
Steve@2009-01-28 11:06:33
After taking 5 hour energy around 1:00pm, and going to bed at 10:00pm, i've been trying to get to sleep for 6 hours now. i've decided just to get up and plug away... why does your product have to work so well?
Ron@2009-01-08 13:13:43
I drank the complete 2oz. bottle of 5 hour energy 1 hour before performing a solo musical gig. I always use a preset drum rhythm machine to play my instrument with. Amazingly it felt as though all the preset rhythms were way too slow, even though I know they were set in perfect timing.
Vikas@2008-11-24 11:58:57
I had a lot of itchy skin even 8 hrs afterwards..whole day i felt sick..as i was on a empty stomach..sneezing..it does give energy..but too troublesome for me..don't use it.
Callan@2008-11-03 00:59:09
had a hangover, drank 5 hour energy, next thing i know, no hang over.
Working college@2008-10-14 18:09:22
I have a long work day and took the whole bottle before I started. Right after lunch break I collapsed and started shaking uncontrollably with my heart pounding abnormally fast and hard. I felt I was going to pass out and was sweating and burning up. It went away eventually but I still felt sick for the day, and then it happened again around 11 at night but worse and I had to call an ambulance. I couldn't even walk to get the door. I'm a girl who's only 5'2", so if this is because of the drink then be careful.
Jason@2008-09-12 23:32:23
This stuff is great. Works better than anything I've ever tried. The flavor is actually not bad, and certainly not as bad as it was made out to be in previous comments.
KD@2008-08-25 16:17:24
This energy shot was terrible based on my experience. I took it on an empty stomach as it suggests, within 20 minutes I was shaking. 30 minutes after, my heart was beating so fast my mom had to pick me up from the parking lot of my gym because I had a panic attack (I do not have any type of anxiety disorder). Maybe it just affected me differently, but I know I will never take one of those again.
Kim@2008-08-18 14:58:39
I absolutely love 5 hour energy. I am a mother of two and have an incredibly busy schedule. Not only at work but trying to keep up with two schedules of baseball and softball, football but also taking care of an acre of land and my father-in-law. It picks me up and makes the day tolerable. The taste isn't bad at all, especially compared to some of the energy drinks out there.
cyngutsch@2008-08-14 22:43:59
Wow ! I was so sleepy this morning I just wanted to lay on the couch and sleep... my husband wanted us to go to the lake for some fun, so I stopped at a convenience store to get a 5-hour energy. I didn't mind the taste, kinda tart but not bad really. He was worried it might make me irritable LOL. Anyway it worked great for me, no grouchy feeling, and lots of energy. No it didn't taste like a crusty bunghole either! I will try this again if I need a little energy burst, but I wouldn't do it daily, cause I think your body will eventually get used to it and won't work as well.
Stephanie@2008-08-08 05:12:03
I took this for an all night cancer relay. It gave me chest pains, high blood pressure, and I was VERY angry. I won't take it again.
