The initial taste is much better than regular red bull, but the aftertaste lingers for some time, like an aerosol hair spray directly in the mouth. The 10 calories is good, but they make up for it with a lot of sodium, so it's not thirst quenching at all. I think it's a reasonably tasty beverage. I'm hard-pressed to give any $2 8.3oz soda a unsullied review. My complaint with Red Bull from day 1 has been quantity to cost. It has a reasonable energy kick, and is a good choice if you have a bladder the size of a walnut.

I think that it's good when companies become more health conscious. But honestly in this day and age, does it really matter? If you want to make your mark as a 'healthy' energy drink, it would have to be no sugar, no carbs, no sodium, no msg, low calorie, with extra tree bark and high fiber dirt. So does a little bit of sugar really matter? I thought we were all carb conscious now anyway. Low sugar drinks are so last year. Besides, most energy drinks average about 30g of sugar per serving. That's one ounce. Plus it's less sugar than you'd find in a Sprite.
So just because you can succeed in making an energy drink with no sugar doesn't mean you should because obviously to make it that way you have to add perfume to it. And I don't mean aromas or flavors. I mean perfume, like when you walk into a department store and some woman sprays you with some new fragrance and swears that now your man will be all over you, and she just so happened to catch you when you were yawning and now it's all in your mouth. What the lady at the counter doesn't tell you is that perfume is made from secretions from a variety of animals including, cat, deer, beaver, and some type of scab-like substance that forms on the inner lining of sperm whale intestines which are eventually 'excreted', meaning crapped out. This is called ambergris, and this is not made up. That kind of perfume taste, along with a little fruit flavor and some syrup.
I don't think there was much of an energy boost. I didn't fall asleep, but I didn't chug this down because I wanted to feel like I got my money's worth of soda. Less than two minutes worth of soda does not equal $2 of soda.

5Active Ingredients:
"With Taurine", appears to be the biggest selling point, as it's on the front of the can, but also contains caffeine.
Can Text:
Lightly Carbonated. Serve Chilled. Red Bull claims that it "Vitalizes body and mind". The back of the can states, "Improves performance, especially during times of increased stress or strain. Increases concentration and improves reaction speed. Stimulates the metabolism". The can looks pretty much like the "classic" red bull, with a lighter blue, to let people know that you're afraid of sugar. It contains phenylalanine, so the small percentage of people with a certain condition who are sensitive to this chemical, should avoid red bull sugar free.

I have to make a comment on Jason's review. I am looking at an 8.4 oz can of Sugar Free Red Bull as I type this and the sodium level is stated at 100mg not the 200mg you have listed in your review. Just saying.....Response by Jason: Not sure if this is the case, but this Red Bull Sugar Free review is over 6 years old. It's possible they've reduced the sodium in that time. Just saying.....

I'm 45 and have tried every energy drink on the market. They all had too much sugar or calories and just didn't taste very good to me. Or the cans were too big and left me feeling too jittery and hyper. With Sugar-Free Red Bull, the 8.4 oz. cans are just the right amount, it only has 10 calories, and they taste good to me. So although I realize it's a matter of preference, I feel since it also contains 80% of B-12 vitamins and 250% of B6 vitamins which are good for you, and has no sugar, then it can't be that bad. I only drink one a day, and it gives me that extra kick I need to get through my 8 hour work day and have enough energy to work-out after work. Also, I noticed without it, I'm not as "mentally alert". And lets face it, it's much healthier than drinking a can of Coca Cola or Pepsi which contains high fructose corn syrup which makes you FAT! Comment by Jason: He's tried EVERY energy drink...Interesting, that after drinking about 400, I won't dare make that claim.

Red Bull Sugar Free is amazing! It doesnt give you jitters or headaches, it feels almost natural. I drink one can around noon to keep up with my 1 year old, from time to time. Ive even drank 2 or 3 a day for days on end with no side effects. The regular Red Bull leaves me feeling heavy, full and sluggish with too much energy and no physical capability of using the extra energy, therefore causing a crash within an hour of drinking it. I recommend Sugar-Free Red Bull (8 oz) it lasts for a few hours and it doesnt make u feel icky after wards. I pretty much love it and have never had a bad experience. (im relatively small, 99 pounds, if that tells u anything)

I love Red Bull Sugar Free energy drink. As a competive swimmer and a training marathon runner I try to keep the amount of carbs, calories and fat as little as possible which is what this does perfectly. 10 calories for one can compared to 260 with rockstar energy drinks! perect for everything, from a hangover to needing a boost of energy. (Redbull company doesnt recommend mixing with alochol)

If you are looking for a sugar free energy product, don't drink sugar free red bull or sugar free energy drinks. They taste awful and still have a lot of side effects. I recently got into Spot On energy patches, which is a patch that transmits all the ingredients that give you energy through your skin without the sugar and calories.

Red Bull Sugar Free tastes great but has the same effect as the rockstar but for more money. That's why I don't buy it. I also don't like the size's they offer.

Ugh... I like regular Red Bull when I need a little kick (not when I really need to get going, just when I need a punt in the right direction), but... Sugar-free Red Bull gives me severe stomach issues. DO NOT CONSUME.

Angie - get a grip. nothing can be as bad as you make Red Bull Sugar Free sound, nothing at all good to say tells me there is an agenda. I love Sugar Free Red Bull! I prefer it ice cold, a little bitter if tepid. Yes, I chose it because I am "afraid" of carbs and sugar. 3 grams here versus 30+ in regular energy drinks is substantial. Just FYI - Buy it at Costco, Sams or WalMart - at approx $1.40 per can - excellent!!

I absolutely adore Red Bull Sugar Free. I'm a stage actor and musician and when I want to focus, this is where I turn, two-fisting with my bottle of water. :o) I'd honestly give it 10/10 and I'd choose Sugar Free over Regular any day of the week for the flavor alone. I also have a mild heart condition and cannot drink energy drinks with things like guarana (Rockstar, Bawls) as they give me heart palpitations big time, then I pass out - I'd like to avoid that, TYVM. This has a comparatively mild amount of caffeine and the taurine definitely works.

Why the heck should Red Bull not produce sugar free energy drinks? I for myself have a disease where I have to abandon sugar. So it's perfect for me. There are quite a lot ppl out there that have problems with sugar be it because they have a disease or be it because of weight problems.

Yeah it might be a little expensive, but there's no substitute for Red Bull. Being a server I have to have a lot of energy, and not only does it do that but it helps me stay focused. The sugar free doesn't taste as great as regular Red Bull, but for only 10 calories it's not bad.
Steve on 2008-11-24 11:58:57 said:
I only wish Red Bull cans would list the amount of caffeine. Rock Star does -- 240 mg (which is about twice what works for me so I drink half a can at a time). Red Bull leaves you guessing. Why not mention the amount of the ingredient that matters most in an energy drink? Edited by Jason: I believe energy fiend lists Red Bull's caffeine content as 80mg/8.3fl. oz.

I'm sure it's been made abundantly clear that this is overpriced, but that does not mean it's bad! Red Bull sugar free is a decent energy drink. The energy blend is definitely below average, but it still provides enough kick to get me through smaller tasks. There are many energy drinks i would buy instead of this, however.

I doubt most people buy sugar free or low carb because they are scared of carbs or sugar, they most likely buy it for fewer calories. 110 to 220 calories for a drink is insane, you're better off saving those calories to eat something.

I'm looking at the back of the sugarfree can, and I'm not sure that Angie did. This product is not only sugarfree. It only has 10 calories and 3 grams of carbs. It's not perfect, but much better than you described. Not to mention it gives a great alternative to the "juice" they serve at bars that are full of sugar and who knows what else. I think overall it's a great product. More expensive than a Monster, but I think it's crazy that people grab a 16 oz can at all. The Monster can says servings 2 for a reason. Many people overlook the serving size on products and I think that's why we have so many overweight people in this country. Everything in moderation is best.
